Road traffic accidents in Italy: fewer victims, but safety remains an open challenge. In 2023, the number of road accident victims fell by 3.8%, but the issue of safety remains critical. According to ACI ISTAT data, more than 3,000 deaths were recorded, with an average of eight victims per day, while Italy remains 19th in Europe in terms of road fatality rate. As reported in a recent article in Quotidiano Motori, edited by Francesco Forni, Roberto Impero highlighted the urgency of improving infrastructure and increasing the protection of fixed obstacles, such as posts and trees, as well as upgrading road barriers, which are now obsolete compared to new generation vehicles. Investing in road safety is not only a matter of ethics, but a legal obligation. Only with timely action can we reduce fatalities and reach the European targets for 2030.
